Introduction to Wine Series

$196.00

What better way to learn about wine … than to taste wines? Over the course of 3 sessions, this introductory series covers the basics – giving you the confidence to make selections in any bottle shop or restaurant.

Session 1: Big 7 Varieties — The Fundamentals of Tasting

Start with the foundation. You will become versed in how to analyze and discuss through comparison as we sip the “big 7 varieties.” In learning simple techniques practiced by wine professionals, you will begin distinguishing wines based on color, body, aroma, acidity, sweetness, and tannin.

Session 2: Aromas and Flavors — Expanding Your Wine Vocabulary

More tasting! More education! Building from the previous session, this will expand on techniques you’ve learned, as well as enhance your vocabulary when identifying different styles. Side-by-side comparisons help you hone in on details such as butter, oak, grassiness, minerality, or floral qualities.

Session 3: Tasting Terroir — Completing the Picture

You’re getting good, so let’s add a new trick to your bag. Here you will learn the differences between Old World & New World wines, plus the effects of cool climates versus warm – culminating in how to identify a wine’s place of origin as we sip through a third tasting.

Sessions:

Thursdays, July 11, 18 and 25, 2024, 6:30pm to 8:00pm
The Wine & Spirit Archive, 3319 SE 50th Ave, Portland, OR.
