This three-part series explores the various facets and styles of beer through tasting. If you love beer, but want to better understand styles, improve your ability to describe beers and be better armed to find new beers to love, this is the course for you!

Session 1: Tasting Basics and Beer Ingredients

This class introduces beer tasting technique and style variations. Students will learn to describe the structure and aroma of beers and will learn how these are impacted by beer’s primary ingredients: yeast, hops and malt.

Session 2: Terroir and National Tradition

In this session, students apply what they learned in the previous week to explore how different countries and regions think about and make beer. We will explore how process decisions, drinking culture and local history shape the beers of the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium.

Session 3: American Beer and the Future

In our final class, we look to the future as we explore the emerging traditions of American beer. And finally, our course culminates with a blind tasting to reinforce our learning throughout the course.
