Thursday, November 19, 6pm to 7pm (wine pick up Wednesday, November 18, 5pm to 6pm

Class held in the Online Classroom (Zoom link sent prior to class)

Welcome Stanford Alumni! In this tasting-focused class, students will explore the tactile building blocks of wine including acid, tannin, sugar and alcohol as well as the primary wine aroma/flavor categories. Students will learn how to identify and describe these essential wine components and will also learn how grape variety, growing conditions and winemaking shape a wine's personality.

This class is open to all levels, but is ideal for students new to the study of wine who wants to improve their ability to describe wine and better understand why wines taste the way they do.

For students purchasing class without wines and components, you’ll want to acquire on your own:

3 bottles of wine: traditional method sparkling wine (Champagne, Cava, Crémant, etc.); a high tannin Italian red wine (Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Aglianico, etc.); a full-bodied, high alcohol red wine from Eastern Washington

Component samples: sugar water, lemon, grapes

About the instructor: Mimi Martin is director of The Wine & Spirit Archive and holds the WSET Diploma in Wine & Spirits.
