The James Joyce
This Gary Regan original cocktail is an adaptation of the classic Oriental Cocktail, which calls for rye whiskey instead of the Irish whiskey specified here. The recipe is a basic sour in formula, but gets both spicy and fruity complexity from the combined use of sweet vermouth and Cointreau. The cocktail is rich, spicy and warming: the perfect antidote to a lingering winter.
- 1-1/2 oz Irish whiskey
- 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
- 3/4 oz Cointreau
- 1/2 oz fresh lime juice
Combine the above in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake until cold and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
