SommDay Deductive Tasting Course -- with Tim Gaiser, MS



This online course is designed and presented by Master Sommelier, Tim Gaiser. In this course, students will learn the Deductive Tasting Method widely used by many sommeliers and other wine professionals. Students will work with the Deductive Tasting Grid to help assess the appearance, nose and palate of a wine. The grid will also help to format the best possible conclusion for a wine in the context of a blind tasting. 


This course is broken down into 4 modules, including:

  • Tasting overview
  • Deductive tasting grid
  • Signatures and impact compounds
  • Key markers


This course is offered online and is 100% self-paced and offers 6 months of access from the time of registration. 


For students seeking to strengthen their blind tasting skills and/or improve their ability to accurately describe wine, this is the class for you! 


Wine 101 Foundation


The Wine 101 Foundation Course offers a comprehensive introduction to wine. Your instructor Natalie Breaux will share her experience as a Certified Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator to help you gain more in-depth knowledge of all aspects of wine. Throughout this course, you will come to understand why a wine tastes the way it does as you learn how the major grape varieties, wine regions and winemaking processes shape a wine's character. 


This course is divided into 4 main modules including: 

  • Introduction to Wine
  • Influence of site, grape variety and winemaking
  • Principles of wine regions
  • Wine tasting, storing, serving and pairing


Whether you are already acquainted with wine or have just been bitten by the 'wine bug' and are eager to learn more, this course will deepen your appreciation for wine while giving you a broader perspective and an expanded vocabulary.
