The Diploma in Wines and Spirits is the traditional preparatory course for the Master of Wine (MW) program and is one of the highest-level courses in wine study available in the world. The course requires approximately two years of study and completion of six units. Testing includes a combination of blind tastings, multiple-choice questions and essay questions.
The program is organized as follows:
- Unit 1: The Global Business of Alcoholic Beverages
- Unit 2: Wine Production: Viticulture and Enology
- Unit 3: Light Wines
- Unit 4: Spirits
- Unit 5: Sparkling Wines
- Unit 6: Fortified Wines
Completion of the WSET Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits is a prerequisite for this course.
The WSA will begin offering Diploma classes in Fall 2012; however, we will not be offering Diploma exams. Students will need to register as "Home Study" students with another U.S. Diploma provider for materials, exams and other support and then register separately with the WSA for the Diploma classes. U.S. locations currently offering Diploma exams include:
- International Wine Center, New York, NY
- Philly Wine School, Philadelphia, PA
- Grape Experience, Boston, MA
- Grape Experience, Northern CA
- Neptune School of Wine, Irvine, CA
